If Only They Knew
If Only They Knew is a public art project connecting stories of the lived experience — creating and curating from the narratives around and within us. The project gives voice to and amplifies stories that would otherwise not be heard.
IOTK initially started in a journalistic setting as a project that consisted of interviews paired with portraits, which you can view
Although it retains the core goal, IOTK has since evolved to be more inclusive of participants across various mediums, allowing them to share stories through physical and digital submissions, whether that be letters, emails, recordings, group activities, etc.
The project facilitates a space that amplifies stories in hopes of interpreting a more accurate perspective of our world.
There is freedom in knowing what was not known before
and accepting what may never be known, which leads to a seemingly poignant prompt:
Consider if you have ever wondered what you
didn't know or stated, "If only they knew..."
If you haven't or can't recall, reflect on what you wish others knew that you think would make life better. If you have, maybe you'll find similar stories in this project.
Regardless, you're not alone.
